(April 1, 2002) - Lowe's Motor Speedway officials and Fox Sports Net have announced a new television agreement that will greatly improve the on-air product from the speedway's 10-week OdoBan Summer Shootout Series which begins Tuesday night, June 11. The new one-hour program, referred to as the Advance Auto Parts Summer Shootout on television, will feature Legends Cars, Bandoleros, Thunder Roadsters, the One-on-One Celebrity Grudge Match and a weekly novelty race. It will be taped on Tuesday nights and edited for an initial broadcast on Fox Sports Net at 7 p.m. (EDT) the following Saturday with a midweek afternoon rebroadcast to be announced. "This new format is the future of short-track racing on television," said H.A. "Humpy" Wheeler, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway. "Fox Cable, on both its Regional Sports Networks and Speed Channel, is taking this approach in covering NASCAR Touring and other short-track events. "The ability to edit the periods of downtime and extended race stoppages that can occur in short-track racing should increase the amount of televised racing and enhance the overall broadcast." Fox Sports Net believes the new approach will produce dividends for all parties. "By presenting a quicker-paced program, we will deliver a more entertaining broadcast to the viewer and much more compelling racing television," said Hunter Nickell, senior vice president and general manager of Fox Sports Net. "This makes it a much more compelling choice and should help us increase our ratings." With nearly 200 competitors expected to fill the pit area each week, the OdoBan Summer Shootout kicks off June 11 and continues each Tuesday night through Aug. 13.
